PMI Project Management Professional (PMP)® Certification
The project management credential employers ask for by name — tested on how you lead people, run the work and keep projects tied to business value.
About the exam
PMI's Project Management Professional certification is aimed at people who already lead projects. On July 9, 2026 PMI switched to a new exam built on the 2026 Examination Content Outline. It keeps the three domains — People, Process and Business Environment — but moves a lot of weight into Business Environment: governance, compliance, change control, risk, organizational change and the outside forces that reshape a project. The outline also adds AI, sustainability and a stronger emphasis on value and outcomes.
The exam is scenario-driven. Roughly 40% of the items reflect predictive (plan-based) work and about 60% reflect agile or hybrid work, spread across all three domains. You won't be asked to recite inputs and outputs. You'll be asked what a project manager should do next — with a team in conflict, a sponsor changing priorities, a vendor slipping, or a risk turning into an issue. Expect case sets, charts and graphs, and interactive formats alongside standard multiple choice.
Our practice is written to the tasks in PMI's 2026 outline. Every item is an original scenario using public, widely taught concepts — earned value, critical path, servant leadership, backlog management — and none are recalled exam questions or text from PMI publications.
How we track your progress
Every blueprint domain moves through five levels as you study:
- Not startedNo questions answered in this domain yet.
- Getting startedFirst questions answered — not enough yet to judge.
- DevelopingAt least 5 answered and 50% or better on your recent questions.
- ProficientAt least 15 answered and 70% or better on your recent questions.
- Exam readyAt least 25 answered, 80% or better recently, and holding up on hard questions.

Scenarios aligned to PMI's 2026 outline
Every question is tagged to one of the 3 domains — People, Process and Business Environment — and to the task it tests, across predictive, agile and hybrid settings.
Exam-critical hints
Reveal the idea that unlocks the question — the mindset cue, the formula, the step that comes first. Every answer comes with the full rationale, including why the tempting wrong answers are wrong.
Adaptive testing
Questions steer toward your weakest areas, weighted by how much each domain counts on the real exam, and get harder as you get stronger.
Timed practice exams
Full-length exams at the real pace — 180 questions in 4 hours — with a live pacing indicator, the two break points and a full review.
Flashcards, case simulations and guides
100 flashcards for earned value, scheduling, agile roles and key terms, 6 case simulations where a project's team, sponsor, risks and changes unfold decision by decision, and 4 interactive illustrated guides you explore hotspot by hotspot.
Progress for every blueprint area
Each domain moves from Not started to Getting started, Developing, Proficient and Exam ready — so you know exactly what to study next.
Test at home or at a center
Apply online at pmi.org. PMI reviews your training and experience (and may audit it). Once approved, you have one year to pass and up to three attempts, booked through Pearson VUE.
At a Pearson VUE test center
- Computer-based exam at a Pearson VUE center.
- Bring government-issued photo ID that matches the name on your PMI application.
- Two 10-minute breaks are offered at set points; the exam clock stops during them.
- You see pass/fail at the end, and a report with your rating in each domain follows.
Online proctored
- Same exam, taken at home or work with a remote proctor watching by webcam.
- You need a quiet, private room, a clear desk and a system that passes Pearson VUE's check.
- Run the system test well before exam day, on the same computer and network.
- Leaving the camera view outside a scheduled break can end your exam.
Exam-day game plan
How to walk in ready — and how to pace 180 questions in 4 hours.
Pacing checkpoints
Hit these and you finish with time to revisit your flagged questions. Our timed practice exams run at this same pace.
The week before
- Take one full-length timed practice exam 3–5 days out, then rest.
- Spend your last sessions on Process and Business Environment — together they're about two-thirds of the exam — plus anything still below Proficient.
- Rework earned value from a blank page: CV, SV, CPI, SPI, EAC, ETC, VAC and TCPI.
- Practice saying what a servant leader does first: talk to the person, involve the team, then escalate.
Exam morning
- Eat a real breakfast; with breaks, plan on close to 5 hours.
- Test center: arrive 30 minutes early with matching ID. Online: clear the room and check in early.
- Use the restroom right before you start.
During the exam
- Read the last sentence first — is it asking what to do first, next, or what should have been done?
- Spot the setting: a predictive project and an agile team can call for different right answers.
- Prefer answers that tackle the problem directly and collaboratively over escalating or simply informing the sponsor.
- Take both breaks; they don't come out of your 240 minutes.
- Ten items are unscored and you can't tell which ones, so give every item your best.
Keep your head
- A few nerves sharpen focus. If you freeze, take three slow breaths and reread the stem.
- You're measured against a fixed standard, not other test-takers.
- Change an answer only when you find a real reason in the stem.
Keeping your PMP
- The PMP runs on a 3-year cycle.
- Earn 60 professional development units (PDUs) in each cycle — through courses, teaching, presenting, reading, volunteering or creating content.
- PMI's Talent Triangle sets how PDUs are spread across ways of working, power skills and business acumen.
- Report PDUs and renew in PMI's online certification system before the cycle ends.
